FORUM TOKEN ENGINEER ! Cool'n'slippery as ICE!

« on: December 21, 2011, 08:57:06 AM »

Ok peeps...here is the deal.  Angry

ICE has moved on his boat and now has funds for a new project.  Sad

The preference was for a AC Cobra replica build. This will not be case, as the RMS (Road and Maritime Services previously known as the RTA) has now canned the previous Engineering Certification Scheme as of 19 December 2011, in favor of the Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme.

Having a hunt through the requirements involved in this publication this type of project is now far in excess of economic practicality to achieve these unrealistic standards of compliance.

To further make this worse Individually Constructed Vehicles (ICV) and now imported vehicles that have previously been engineered in other states and have current interstate registration, or who have previously had NSW rego that has lapsed in excess of three months now have to be re-certified against this ridiculously expensive and hard to achieve standard (unless you are a local car manufacturer that is ) despite RMS assurance that the ACS for vehicles has not changed the individual certifiers interpretation of standards have Angry

This will be further amended to include heavily modified vehicles such as an XR4 running non standard uptakes and exhaust systems, suspension and brake modifications, turbos, supercharging and/or Nitrous Oxide systems fitted regardless or not if active or passive. The RMS is yet to promulgate this vehicle list and classification.

The RMS can hide behind all the safer regulatory requirement BS they like but at the end of the day, it is another way to screw cash out of automotive enthusiasts...at this rate we will all be driving Camry's like LUKEY! Cheesy

More info at....http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au...vsccs_vehicle_owners.html and http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au.../downloads/bulletin_1.pdf.

This shytes me to tears for numerous reasons including the associated cost of certification and compliance now, the fact that some engineer with less qualification and competency than myself can charge me to mis-interpret the certification standard and that if a vehicle has already achieved certification previous to this scheme in accordance with the national standard (that has been paid for already) either in this thieving state or another, we have to folk out yet more cash to achieve compliance. tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff I can not even buy one from interstate and modify with out the same BS.

Are we not one nation with one nation code of practice and Automotive manufacturing standards and codes? Huh?

On the positive side those with current rego of these types of cars are set as long as they do not change a thing or let rego lapse.  Thumbsup

Thumbsup Yep..that how I read it and what I am hoping...I do not have a single stocker in the stables Shocked

Here is an update, I have been doing some more research and the case is if you have a valid Engineers Certificate for ADR compliance issued by a NSW licensed certification representative, this certificate will still be considered as valid for the purpose of NSW registration until mid 2012.  Certificates presented after this date to the RTA will not be valid and alternate certification under the VSCCS will be required.

here is a link to the latest explanations.....

Nah mate, just a Ricky Bobby fan...and as far as Scientology is concerned, L Ron Hubbard once said the best way to make money is to start your own religion.  Read into that whatever you want...

Back on topic...so in summary, these changes mean that specific approval will be required for any modifications in NSW (i.e. CAI, exhaust, suspension etc)?

Thankfully we still have a fairly reasonable system where certain mods are allowed without a mod plate (wheels, exhaust etc).  Who knows how long that will last - our government is broke and would love to screw the punters even more.

Wink Any new modifications over and above what the RMS (RTA) considers tobe within reason..list still to be promulgated...that is not already covered by an existing engineering certificate submitted to the RMS before mid next year, or certificate of compliance under the new scheme.

Funny how there is yet another increased financial burden placed on the motorist for this. Angry
